Coroner identifies 2 killed in Palm Springs crash

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has released the identities of the two people killed in a crash on North Indian Canyon Drive Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m., a half mile north of Tramview Road.

Palm Springs police said a 2003 Acura Integra, driven by 50-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident Derryl Jones, was traveling northbound on Indian Canyon when he lost control of the car and crossed into the path of a 2012 Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on Indian Canyon.

Ashley Van Buskirk, a 23-year-old from Joshua Tree, was driving the Sentra and she was killed in the crash. Jones also died at the scene, according to the coroner’s report.

The Palm Springs Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision and more information is expected to be released soon.

North Indian Canyon between Interstate 10 and Tramview Road was closed for several hours while the accident was being investigated. Officers reopened the road just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as the investigation continues.
