Thousands still without power after storm

More than 900 customers are currently in the dark in Desert Hot Springs because of the severe weather. Southern California Edison says power may not be restored until about 5:30 tonight for some of those people.

In the high desert, 292 customer are without power in Morongo Valley. Restoration time is getting re-evaluated, SCE says.

In Yucca Valley, SCE reports 15 customers are without power, down from 756. Etimated restoration time there is 6:22 Friday morning.

In Joshua Tree, 463 customers are still in the dark, down from about a thousand Thursday night. Estimated restoration for most of them is 3:00 Friday afternoon.

In the high desert, about 300 people are without power in Morongo Valley. In Yucca Valley, SCE reports nearly 746 customers are without power. In joshua tree, about one thousand customers are in the dark.

Thunder, lighting and rain hit the Coachella Valley and High Desert early Thursday morning, causing widespread power outages.

The National Weather Service is actually investigating a possible tornado in the eastern valley where 12 power poles were uprooted near Salton City, blocking lanes on Highway 86.

In Twentynine Palms, power isn’t expected to be restored to the 540 customers experiencing outages until close to 3 a.m. Friday, according to Southern California Edison.

Near Landers, there were 3,641 customers affected by power outages but all but 652 had power restored by early Thursday night. The initial estimated restoration time was set for 3 a.m. Friday.

In Yucca Valley, 2,460 customers were in the dark after lightning knocked out power, but only 10 were without power as of Thursday afternoon.

The Imperial Irrigation District said 1,161 customers were without power in Salton City because 12 power poles were knocked down due to the storm. The downed power poles closed southbound 86 Expressway. IID officials estimate power will be restored by 1 p.m.

There were also equipment-related outages in Cathedral City where 271 Southern California Edison customers were in the dark Thursday morning. Southern California Edison reports power has since been restored.

In Rancho Mirage, 95 customers experienced outages with an initial estimated restoration time of 3:30 p.m., but crews are reevaluating the time frame.

In Palm Springs, another 4447 customers were impacted by equipment problems. The estimated restoration time is 6 p.m., according to S.C.E.
