2 arrested with 80-feet of stolen copper wire

Two men from Mecca were arrested last week after a sheriff’s deputy found about 80-feet of stolen copper wire in the trunk of their Mustang.

Authorities were called to the 64000 block of Maravilla Way at about 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 15 and found the suspects sitting inside the car. After searching the vehicle, the deputy found the stolen copper wire in the trunk.

A representative from Verizon Wireless later confirmed the wire was taken from their poles in the Mecca area.

Sosafat Garcia, 24, and 26-year-old Reynaldo Martinez were both arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. Deputies said they were booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Deputy Bloomquist with the Thermal Station at 760-863-8990.
