Man tazed after charging at DHS police officer
A man was recovering at Desert Regional Medical Center after he charged a police officer and was tazed over the weekend. While at the hospital, a nurse apparently found suspected methamphetamine on the man, according to police.
The Desert Hot Springs Police Department was called to 65950 Pierson Boulevard just before 5 p.m. Sunday after people reported a man jumping on the roof of a passing vehicle. When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Rene Flores on top of a vehicle and they said citizens were trying to remove him.
Officers said when they began to give Flores commands, he suddenly turned and charged toward an officer with his hands up and closed fists. Due to his actions, an officer used a taser on him and he was detained, according to the release.
After being detained, police said Flores began to vomit and became unconscious. Paramedics were called and took him to Desert Regional Medical Center. That’s where the nurse found the suspected methamphetamine. Officers also learned Flores was on probation and post-community release supervision.
He remained at the hospital for further treatment and officers will take him into custody as soon as he’s released.
No police officers were injured during the incident.
