4 human smugglers & 13 undocumented immigrants arrested

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station arrested four suspected human smugglers and 13 undocumented Mexican Nationals in a home on Friday.

According to officials, the Calexico Police Department was conducting a welfare check at a home on Rockwood Street at about 1:30 p.m. when they called Border Patrol agents for backup.

Officers found a group of people crowded in a room and suspected they were in the United States illegally. Agents said all of the individuals freely stated they had illegally entered into the U.S.

Two women and eleven men ranging from 18 to 56-years of age were in the group. They were all arrested and taken to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.

Four people inside the home were suspected of living at the residence and coordinating the human smuggling operation. Authorities said the suspects are a 47-year-old lawfully admitted permanent resident and three U.S. citizens; a 21 and 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man.

The suspected smugglers were arrested and taken to the Calexico Border Patrol Station where they face prosecution.

Agents said two vehicles were seized during the arrests.
