Agua Caliente Tribe considers building parking structure near Spa Resort Casino

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is considering the concept of building a parking structure on the north side of the Spa Resort Casino.

Officials made the announcement on Monday.

“We are interested in making investments in downtown Palm Springs to ensure the continued vitality of an international destination,” Tribal Chairman Jeff L. Grubbe said. “A parking structure would proactively address parking needs within the gaming district. We are considering building this parking structure to enhance our guest experience and contribute to the local economy. It would create jobs in the near-term during construction, and it would ultimately create new opportunities for more visitors to travel to and enjoy our unique destination.”

Officials said as a first step in the process, the Tribe has announced its notice of intent to prepare an environmental assessment for the possible project referred to as the Calle Encilia Parking Structure.

The possible project would consist of a four-level, above ground public parking structure with about 850 stalls on an existing surface parking lot in downtown Palm Springs adjacent to and on the north side of the Spa Resort Casino. As part of the process, the Tribe will collect comment on the project concept up until Dec. 30, 2015.

The tribe is taking public comment on the project through Dec. 31. and should be directed to:
