DHS police seek person of interest in November shooting

Update: Desert Hot Springs police continue to search for a person of interest after two pedestrians were shot at while walking near Palm Drive and Buena Vista on Monday, November 16.

Officers released two additional photos of 24-year-old Jiquake Lamar Green on Tuesday. Green is described as 6’1″, 165 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a small tattoo on his left cheek.

Authorities said a silver Volkswagen drove by the pedestrians at about 10:45 a.m. and people inside the car began shooting at them, narrowly missing.

The suspect’s vehicle was later found inside a garage during a search at a home located in the 66300 block of 6th Street in Desert Hot Springs, which led to a 17-hour police standoff. Nobody was found inside the home.

17-hour police standoff:

James Green showed us the aftermath of Monday’s 17 hour police stand off. Green said he was inside the Desert Hot Springs home with two children and his nephew’s girlfriend when police surrounded them.

“They destroyed the garage. They shot a bean bag through the back window, through the front window. I don’t know what they did that for,” said James Green. “I told them no one else was in there.”

Desert Hot Springs Police said the standoff started after someone saw a car involved in a drive-by shooting parked at the home on 6th Street. Police said they knew exactly who they were looking for, 24-year-old Jaiquake Green.

“Jaiquake Green, who is known to us. We’ve actually been actively looking for him,” said DHS Police Chief Dale Mondary. “We talked to the homeowner and she confirmed when she left the home, Mr. Green was inside the home.”

Police learned a suspect from a another shooting at Tedesco Park last week and three other gang members may have been inside with Green. When the standoff finally ended overnight with police storming the home, it was empty.

Mondary said his officers found a shotgun and shell casings inside the suspected vehicle in the garage.

“I apologize for that temporary inconvenience, but hopefully in the long run when we can find him and arrest him, they’re going to be much safer and sleep a lot better at night,” said Mondary.

Green is wanted for parole violation and they want to question him about about other shootings he’s allegedly connected to in the city. If you have any information, contact the Desert Hot Springs Police Dept. At 760-329-2904.
