Trial date set for man accused in Zelda’s Nightclub shooting
A Jan. 7 trial date was set Friday in the case of a 32-year- old man accused of shooting a nightclub doorman in Palm Springs last year.
Sheldon Alfred Auclair Jr. of Thermal is charged with one count of attempted murder stemming from the shooting outside Zelda’s nightclub at 611 S. Palm Canyon Drive on April 18, 2014. Auclair has remained in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
Detective Michael Studer wrote in a declaration in support of an arrest warrant that Auclair was escorted outside by club staff after an unspecified incident, then was approached by two doormen in the parking lot about 12:50 a.m.
“It is unclear what was exactly said, but (Auclair) produced a handgun from his person and shot one of the doormen in the abdomen and fled the location,” Studer alleged.
The 35-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, identified Auclair as the shooter while recovering in a hospital, and two of the nightclub’s owners said they saw Auclair in the parking lot with the doormen, according to Studer.
On May 1, KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 interviewed the brother of the shooting victim. He said his brother underwent at least two surgeries following the shooting.
