CAL Fire locates vehicle stranded in flooded roadway

Update: 10:15 p.m.

Riverisde County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Armando Munoz says the man and his vehicle were located in the rushing water, and were pulled to safety.

Original Story:

Cal Fire Riverside County rescue crews are looking for a driver who called for help tonight in Mecca.

When dispatchers received the call, the man said he was stuck in two feet of water. But his phone cut off and there’s no sign of him or his vehicle.

Crews are at the scene near Painted Canyon and Box Canyon and say they’ll be there “as long as it takes,” and may need aerial support because of the rushing water on the road.

“We’re still trying to move in with ground resources to minimize the search area,” says Mark Oakley, Riverside County Fire Battalion Chief. “Once we get to a stop point, then we’re going to request an airship and look for the patient from the air.”
