Pleasant for the rest of the weekend as winds settle down

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – It's been a cloudy afternoon here in the Coachella Valley! The low that was offshore (part of our Santa Ana wind setup) has moved more onshore, ushering in clouds to our region. A look from our satellites show that moisture moving through the area.

We shift to more zonal flow for Sunday, which will lend itself to clearer skies and mild temperatures.

This also breaks down the system that was fueling the Santa Ana winds. Some lingering breezes are possible in areas that favor easterly flow (like the San Gorgonio Pass), but the numbers are far lower than what we saw yesterday when the winds peaked.

By Sunday, winds will be calm.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer on Sunday as clearer skies return. We'll rebound into the upper 80s, though this is still below seasonal (91°F is the average for Sunday's date).

A cooling trend is on the way as another low moves in by midweek. Temperatures fall into the mid-80s Tuesday before we could fall into the 70s by Wednesday. There are some slight chances for rainfall locally (around 30% right now), which we'll be keeping a close eye on. This will likely increase onshore flow and contribute to winds peaking Wednesday and Thursday, as well. We'll be refining the exact timing and strength as we get closer.
