George Zander to be honored at “Celebration of Life” event

The desert community is invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” for George Zander, who died in December.

Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon announced the event on Facebook.

It’s sponsored by “SFL Presents,” a group known as Some Fabulous Leos, and other community members.

The event planned with music and refreshments will be on Monday, March 21st from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Palm Springs Pavilion.

They are asking for any donations and volunteers to help with the gathering.

Zander was the regional field manager for Equality California, a statewide LGBT civil rights group. He lived in Palm Springs for more than 20 years.

Zander was recently selected to receive a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

He and his husband were injured in an alleged hate crime in November. It’s still unknown if that contributed to Zander’s death.
