Big upset loss at Australian Open for Serena Williams

Serena Williams was upset this morning against German Angelique Kerberat the Australian Open.

This loss postpones Serena’s race to tie for the record of the most Grand Slam wins in the open era.

Williams was an overwhelming favorite at the Australian Open, where she had won all six previous times she’d reached the final.

Kerber took advantage of Williams’ weak serving and nerves throughout the match.

This is Kerber’s best showing at a Grand Slam tournament.

Williams will have another attempt to tie the most wins in the open era title when she competes at the French Open in May.

Both Williams sisters will be in the desert to play at the BNP Paribas Open in March.

This will be the first time the now 35-year-old Venus Williams has played in Indian Wells in 15 years.
