Man arrested in Mecca for assault with a deadly weapon, other charges

On Thursday, deputies from the Thermal Station investigated an assault with a deadly weapon on the 91000 block of Avenue 66 in Mecca. During the altercation, the suspect, Jose Flores Guzman, pointed a handgun at the victim and threaten to kill him. The suspect fled prior to the deputies’ arrival.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, officers served an assault with a deadly weapon-related search warrant in the 91000 block of 3rd Street in Mecca. Guzman was found and detained without incident. During a search of his home, deputies found ammunition along with other items of evidentiary value. Guzman was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and negligent discharge of a firearm and booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio.
