‘Best of Show’ artist revealed at La Quinta Arts Festival
Mixed media artist, Ed Myers, was shocked to learn he’d won ‘Best of Show’ here at the nation’s number one fine arts show, the 34th annual La Quinta Arts Festival.
Myers drove four days to La Quinta from across the nation with his son, Joey, because his friends say it’s a great show.
Now it’s a winning show for him and his works.
“I do a combination of wood work, digital, I’ll do digital animations, sculpture,” said Myers. “I actually have a piece up here,” Myers added.
The La Quinta Arts Festival continues all weekend long at the city’s Civic Center Park.
Myers says his art is inspired by technology and how it’s changing so very fast.
“We’ve now gone to the cell phone and who knows where we’re going to be 100 years from now,” said Myers. He adds, “If you think about it, the horse and carriage was just 100 years ago, and that’s what my work is about.”
His works include a painting of Thomas Edison surrounded by his inspirations, to a baby using a typewriter and a well-dressed monkey with headphones, riding a bike.
“I don’t know if there’s a real name for what I’m doing because I’m really coming up with a concept and figuring out how I want to express that concept,” said Myers.
He’s been a commercial artist his entire life, but focused on fine art five years ago, working for himself.
Myer’s offerings run anywhere from $150 to $20,000.
One of his new favorites is a piece where a man is morphed with an automobile.
“This is not done yet, I’ll have it done tomorrow,” said Myers. “This is going to have an animated screen in there, and the car is going to move by it’s going to morph into something else as time moves on.”
Myers and his son will be in their La Quinta Arts Festival booth at the city’s Civic Center Park all weekend along with 220 other top artists.
