Woman taken to hospital after fire ignites in Desert Hot Springs

Cal Fire and Riverside County firefighters responded to a structure fire in Desert Hot Springs that sparked Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the 13500 block of Monterey Road.

Firefighters arrived to see heavy smoke and flames coming from a double-wide mobile home and immediately began attacking the fire. Officials said the fire sparked in the attic of the home but the cause is still under investigation.

A woman was taken to the hospital after suffering smoke-inhalation but officials said she doesn’t have life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters contained the flames but resources were expected to be on scene until about 1 p.m.

Desert Hot Springs police blocked off Monterey Road at Loma Vista Road while 21 county firefighters battled the blaze. Crews with the Southern California Gas Company and Southern California Edison were called to the home as well.
