Palm Springs police issue neighborhood alert for Deepwell Estates after series of burglaries

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.-

The Palm Springs Police Department continues investigate a number of burglaries that have happened in Deepwell Estates on Saturday, December 21. There were six burglaries reported between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

"Worried, I am terrified now," said Rick Valencia, resident of Deepwell Estates.

Rick Valencia has lived in the Deepwell Estates since 1993 and reacted after he heard the news about the break-ins.

"This is crazy maybe one break-in every six months or something to somebody that doesn't lock their door," said Valencia.

Police described the suspect as an adult Hispanic male in his 20-30s with black bushy hair.

The suspect’s vehicle, a silver 2000 model Ford Fusion.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark pants and a black colored bandana.

“He looks like a big guy I don’t feel good at all about it there's a lot of expensive things in this neighborhood,"said Valencia.

Other residents are not concerned.

“I personally am not worried no i feel very secure even though I am on a corner however if anybody tried to get over that fence over there they will be tore up so badly," said Diane Ross, resident of Deepwell Estates. "The torns are about an inch to two inches long and they are all over so I feel very secure.”

Some homeowners are reviewing video captured by their security cameras.

“All of our cameras are on will be checking our surveillance and our dogs are on high alert as well," said Tamara Hedges, resident of Deepwell Estates.

We're told Deepwell Estates' neighborhood watch group has also started investigating and notifying residents.

“Very surprised because everybody has on Neighborhood watch vest and hats and we are out looking for our neighborhood, protecting our neighborhood," said Jim King, Deno Neighborhood Watch Chairman. "We also have video signs up and neighborhood watch signs up all over the neighborhood. We are out there checking this out.”

Police said they are investigating and are not aware if images of the suspect are captured on any other surveillance cameras. Police have not provided specific locations in Deepwell Estates that were targeted.

“Somebody has been casing the neighborhood in order to know who’s home and who’s not home what house you can break into quickly which one you cant break into quickly," said Ross.

Police are reminding everyone to make sure to lock your doors and windows and turn on your alarm systems.
