Restaurant worker tips at risk with $15 minimum wage

The restaurant industry around California may experience changes in what servers and back of house staff are making and possibly even the overall cost of your dinner bill.

Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom endorsed minimum wage hikes in California. He was in the valley this last weekend for the National Center for Lesbian Rights’ Garden Party when News Channel 3 spoke with him on this historic legislation.

Restaurant owner and member of the Palm Springs Hospitality Association, Eric Morcus, believes compromises must be made to afford the higher minimum wage. This could include raising restaurant menu prices or eliminating server tips.

The Lieutenant Governor says business should be booming, however, since higher wages means more spending among minimum wage workers.
