Vacation home rental company teams up with island destination

Palm Springs and another popular Southern California tourist destination are teaming up to drum up more business.

Oranj Palm Vacation Homes, a local vacation home rental company, is working with Catalina Island Vacation Rentals.

The whole idea is to get more visitors who might not have thought to come here before.

“The merger of the two companies, I think, is going to bring awareness of people in San Diego and LA who are used to driving to Long Beach,” said Thomas Salinas, vice president of Oranj Palm Vacation Homes.

Salinas said with the partnership tourists will save money if they want to plan trips to both locations.

“We have the opportunity to unify that experience and one expectation for the quality level and more information on what you can get from the property,” Salinas said.

Travelers we talked with said they’d think about taking advantage.

“I think it would be a really good idea. I think it would work for you,” said Jay Wood who’s visiting from Minnesota.

“I think there’s a benefit to someone trying to parcel together a lesser known location to try and widen the breath of tourism,” said Ryan Bragg who’s visiting from Vancouver.

The main reason for the merger, our opposite high seasons.

“We have such peak demand in our peak season and things kind of fall off of demand in the summer and that’s part of our resort destination that can’t really be changed. So we tried to find a market that can supplement that,” Salinas said.

While the merger is great for vacationers, Salinas said it’s also good for homeowners.

“I think that the homeowner has a real benefit to go with a company that’s local but also has connections to a noncompetitive option, so we have people staying in the family,” Salinas said.

The company also plans to give discounts to homeowners who stay at Catalina rentals while their home is being rented.

Salinas said both markets share similar histories.

“They grew up and they were very Hollywood-centric, they were music focused,” Salinas said.

With summer coming up, Salinas said he’s already getting calls from people wanting to plan a trip.
