Free rides & fun events planned for Earth Day

The Sunline Transit Agency and The Living Desert are both hosting Earth Day events on Friday.

Sunline is celebrating Earth Day by offering free rides all day in the Coachella Valley. The free rides are joined with the commissioning of the agency’s new solar system installation, which will take place at 10 a.m. Friday.

Sunline officials said the solar system installation is expected to provide 33% of the agency’s energy, delivering 266 kilowatts of power. The solar panels were completed by Renova Solar.

“At SunLine, Earth Day is every day as we have a longstanding commitment to the environment with our clean fuels fleet – which helps us do our part to ensure our natural resources are preserved for future generations,” said Lauren Skiver, CEO/General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency. “We’re really looking forward to commemorating Earth Day with this special event.”

Now that you’ve found a free ride, you can find some fun events at The Living Desert to enjoy Earth Day. Zoo officials said they will have guided walks, entertainment, animal encounters, and more.

The first 1,500 guests will receive a seed packet to take home and plant in their gardens, and guests will get $2-off the price of admission if they bring in an approved recyclable item.

The Living Desert is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 47900 Portola Ave., in Palm Desert.
