Police investigate BB gun vandalism in Downtown Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department said someone with a BB gun shot at least two businesses, a Buzz Trolley and an unoccupied vehicle in downtown Palm Springs Sunday night.
The vandalism was reported at about 8:20 p.m. in the area of 1200 South Palm Canyon Drive and 500 East Palm Canyon Drive. Officers found a parked vehicle had been struck with a few BBs, causing damage to a window and the outside of the vehicle.
Another report came in after a Buzz Trolley, driving south on South Palm Canyon Drive near Morongo Road, was struck by two BBs, damaging two windows. PSPD officers said there were no passengers on the trolley at the time.
While searching for the suspect, officers found two businesses between 1200 and 1500 South Palm Canyon Drive that had windows which had also been damaged by BBs.
One of the vandalized businesses was the New York Company Restaurant and Bar. The owner told us they had purchased a film for the window which kept the glass intact, rather than completely shattering. KESQ and CBS Local 2’s Zak Dahlheimer just reported on the anti-break glass on Friday.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 is getting a closer look at the vandalism and we’ll have more details for you Monday afternoon.
Police still haven’t identified the suspect. Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at 8:20 p.m. Sunday is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-323-8116 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).
