Local residents gear up for 545-mile cycle for AIDS
Let me introduce you to Danny, David, and Curtis– three of the estimated 2,600 bikers that will make there way 545-miles from Los Angeles to San Francisco. All for a cause near and dear to their hearts.
“I am riding an aids life cycle, it’s the 15th anniversary and what we are doing is raising funds that will benefit the LA Gay and Lesbian Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation.” Danny Fierro, a first time rider said.
“It hits close to home, I think almost every American, if not close to every American knows somebody who has been touched by HIV.” Curtis Bass, a 2nd time rider said.
“I lost my partner of 13-years, 20 some years ago, a lot of our best friends, and I am still able to ride.” 61-year old David Sherwood added.
June 5th the mission begins, the helmets will be strapped and the shoes will be clipped and the 2,600 that were strangers, quickly become a family.
“Everybody refers to it as the love bubble, and it’s all these different communities of people, different types of people, brought here for the own reasons but a common purpose and goal.” Fierro added.
“It’s absolutely beautiful, it’s amazing to have this huge support team of people, pretty much it’s a moving city moving down the coast of California with you.” said Bass.
A family with a heart fully of love, with each peddle trying to make a difference, and each dollar raised hoping it will bring us one day closer to a world without aids.
“Last year they raised over 16 million dollars, and I have a feeling they are going to top that this year.”
