Community celebrates groundbreaking at Veterans Memorial Park in Coachella

The city of Coachella is celebrating some major upgrades coming to Veterans Memorial Park.
Local veterans were on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony Friday along with city leaders and students.
The park will be redesigned, with the addition of a POW flag and veterans’ amphitheater.
A “Hero Walk” and “Supreme Sacrifice Monument” will feature the names and stories of Coachella veterans.
“The city of Coachella has a very proud veteran history here, and this park is old and tired and were at a point where we needed to significantly upgrade this park,” said Mayor Steve Hernandez.
“From what I see it looks like its gonna be a place to come and visit and spend some time for families for those who can be remembered,” said veteran Edward Granados
Dedication plaques and monuments recognizing local veterans will also be included in the new arched gateway.
The upgrades are set to be completed by November.
