Pet friendly businesses in Coachella Valley to escape heat
The heat can be life threatening for kids and pets and they should never be left in a car. More valley businesses are allowing customers to bring pets indoors.
Jule’s Market in La Quinta is a family-owned store, and CEO Jeremy Cullifer said pets are family, too.
“Please don’t leave your dogs in the car. Bring them in the store,” said Cullifer. “We’re very welcoming to pets. The law says we have to allow service animals, so we’ve decided not to hassle anybody.”
There are some rules. Pets are welcome as long as they’re under control, on a leash, and shoppers don’t put them in store carts and pet owners should clean up after them.
Restaurants across the desert and the state allow pets on the patio. Some give water and treats to the four-legged friends.
The Body Deli in Palm Desert is a pet friendly place to cool off. Next door at Bones-N-Scones, employee Nicki Coleman said she rescued her dogs and doesn’t risk having them rescued from a hot car.
“If I do need to bring them out, then I make sure I do research ahead of time just to find out where it is I can go,” said Coleman. “Depending on how long I’m gone during the day, I will leave them at home with the AC on and ice cold water and their favorite TV show.”
Employees at the Westfield Mall and Ralph’s in Palm Desert said only service animals are welcome.
