DHS man identified in deadly motorcycle crash in Palm Springs
6-28 Update: The Riverside County Coroner’s Office released the name of the man who died during the crash as 42-year old Wayton Waiolama of Desert Hot Springs. They say Waiolama died at Desert Regional at 11:46pm Saturday night.
Update: Palm Springs police said the motorcyclist who was critically injured after rear-ending a car in Palm Springs Saturday later died at the hospital.
Officers said a 2003 black Lincoln Town Car was traveling north on Sunrise Way in the right lane and a 2001 white Suzuki motorcycle, with a lone rider, was traveling north behind it. The motorcyclist rear ended the car as it began to turn right into a residential complex.
North Sunrise Way was closed between Paseo El Mirador and Tachevah Drive until about 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of the Lincoln Town Car was interviewed and released at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. No word if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.

Police said a motorcyclist is in the hospital after being involved in a crash with another car in Palm Springs Saturday night.
The crash was reported around 11:12 p.m. on Sunrise Way between Vista Chino and East Chia Road. Sunrise Way was blocked off for about an hour until the scene was cleared.
The extent of injuries sustained by the motorcyclist is unknown at this time. The driver of the car did stay on scene and is cooperating with police.
Police are currently investigating the crash. At this time, it is unclear what led up to the crash between the driver of the car and the motorcyclist.
