Families don red, white and blue in CDMD Independence Day Parade

Lots of families were donning red, white and blue from head to toe at The River in Rancho Mirage Saturday night.

The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert (CDMD) kicked off Fourth of July festivities a couple of days early, with their Independence Day Parade.

150 kids marched in the parade that started at Starbucks and circled around the amphitheater.

Organizers said families came out with scooters, strollers and wagons all decked out with Fourth of July decorations.

“The Fourth of July is a very important holiday for the United States, and it was letting the kids and families come together to celebrate the United States becoming it’s own nation,” CDMD Director of Museum Advancement Kyle Pong said. “So, we were really excited to partner with The River. The Children’s Discovery Museum is doing lots with The River this summer, and that was part of that kickoff for that partnership.”

Museum staff said they’re also inviting families to take part in their Drop Off and Dine program this summer, where parents can get the chance to catch a movie, enjoy dinner and shop while their kids take part in creative activities.

The cost is $30 per child, and $20 for each additional child, with pick up at 8:30 p.m. Parents can take part in the program on June 25th, July 16th and July 23rd.
