Proposed gun ordinances look to safen Palm Springs

Last week Governor Jerry Brown signed 6-new gun bills into law, making California one of the toughest in the country. Today at the City Council Meeting, Councilmen Kors will have his own proposal that focuses even more on safety.

“If you have a gun in your house and it’s lost or stolen, you need to let the police know so they know there is a gun out there in the wrong hands. If you have a gun in your home and it’s loaded, you need to have one of the approved safety locks on it unless it is in your possession or control and the city attorney is recommending, that if you are carrying a gun in an automobile, it should be locked in the glove compartment.” said Councilmen Kors.

Part of the bill Governor Brown signed does limit capacity of ammunition to 10-rounds, and many are not pleased.

“Somebodies trying to create a law to keep people safe, but like we all know criminals don’t obey laws so there is nothing that we can do to stop them, so all they are doing right now is making it more difficult for law obeying citizens to protect themselves.” Ben Moran, the General Manager at Second Amendment Sports said

“Look at Switzerland, they have the lowest crime rate in the entire world and everyone’s mandated to have a gun.” Paul Curtright of Coachella said.

As gun control laws become stricter across California, many not happy with the new laws will be outside the courthouse protesting the agenda, but as Councilmen Kors puts it, this is a state decision.

“There were two measures that we were considering about large capacity ammunition clips and tracking ammunition, but Governor Brown already signed laws last week to do that.”
