Local students are rocking out to their own beat

Students from 18 different valley schools are gearing up for their final performances Saturday. They’re part of a three-week camp that helps them develop and enhance their music skills. Many of the students are self taught.

The camp teaches them how to collaborate with other musicians and write original songs. This music experience is funded by Goldenvoice, the promoter of Coachella, Stagecoach and Desert Trip.

“I’m just so proud of this whole group, the leadership and the community has really come together. It’s just been amazing. And this program wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the seed funding from Goldenvoice so we’re so thankful for them,” said Program Director Kate Spates.

Final performances will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at Shadow Hills High School. Tickets to the event are $10.
