Gun violence prompts installation of metal detectors at PS Council Chambers
Residents attending the Palm Springs City Council meeting Wednesday night saw increased security.
In a response to recent shootings, two metal detectors have been placed at the entrance to the Palm Springs City Council Chambers, the city announced on Tuesday. The safety measures were seen for the first time at Wednesday night’s meeting.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 attended Wednesday night’s city council meeting and things went smoothly and the line moved quick.
Palm Springs police officers were on hand at the meeting, requiring residents to pass through the detectors in order to attend. Police Chief Bryan Reyes said the detectors should not delay the flow of people into the building.
“These are changing times and it is important to ensure the safety of everyone who makes the effort to come to these well-attended public meetings,” said Chief Reyes. “We care about the safety of our community and our City Council members, especially when everyone is together in a large group setting…We appreciate your support,” he added.
