Power outages hit some valley cities

UPDATE: 38 customers are without power in Palm Desert, down from 800. And 24 customers are without power in Cathedral City, down from 1100. SCE says it’s due to equipment problems.

Eleven hundred people are without power this morning after an outage in Cathedral City. It’s a neighborhood near east Palm Canyon Drive and Sungate Way, near Date Palm.

It started just before 6:00 Thursday morning.

Southern California Edison is aware of the problem and trying to figure out what caused it.

Also, about 800 people are without power in Palm Desert, between Portola and Highway 111 just south of El Paseo. No word on a cause there.
