Man arrested on suspicion of shooting woman near I-10 in Beaumont

The Beaumont Police Department is investigating after a woman was shot multiple times while she was parked along the eastbound I-10 off-ramp of Highland Springs Avenue in Beaumont Tuesday morning.

Investigators said it appears the suspect and victim know each other and the shooting stemmed from a previous domestic violence dispute. Neither of them live in Beaumont but their identities haven’t been released yet.

The shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m. and the woman was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. Several witnesses called 911 to report the shooting.

The suspect allegedly walked right up to the woman’s car and opened fire.

Officers said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of firing several bullets into the woman’s Chevy Impala. The suspect hasn’t been identified yet, but police said he was arrested at the Pilot gas station on Indian Canyon Drive after witnesses to the shooting were able to identify his vehicle.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 is working to get more information about the shooting suspect as the investigation continues.

Officers said the woman’s car was riddled with bullets on the driver’s side. They are still trying to determine how many shots were fired.

The Beaumont Police Department believes this was an isolated incident and the suspect and victim knew each other, but officers are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting.

CHP issued a SIG ALERT for the off-ramp at Highland Springs Avenue and eastbound I-10 at 10:30 a.m. as they were on scene investigating, but the off-ramp was reopened at about 12:30 p.m.
