Officials say explosive fire growth is “new normal” at Bluecut Fire press conference
Around 9 AM several incident commanders and speakers from various agencies provided updates to the Bluecut Fire .
They say the fire started at 10:44 AM on August 16. It is currently 30,000 acres with 0% containment. Hot and dry conditions with low humidity and high temperatures are contributing to fire growth.
Officials say fuels are extremely dry and very explosive this time of year leading to unprecedented fire growth.
Spotting has occurred up to half a mile ahead of the fire.
There are currently 18 crews, 15 helicopters, and 10 air tankers combating the fire with 1309 personnel.
Officials say they are attempting to get ahead of the fire to protect the affected communiteis of Keenbrook, Lytle Creek, Wrightwood, and Phelan. Structure defense is a priority for today.
“It hit hard. It hit fast. It hit with an intensity that we haven’t seen before,” said San Bernardino County Fire Chief, Mark Hartwig, “There will be a lot that come home to nothing.”
