Alleged wreath thief busted by man in makeup

A man dressed as Ursula from the Little Mermaid tackled a man suspected of stealing bags from a Halloween party at Oscar’s Cafe in Palm Springs. The man in the costume is a manager at the restaurant. Employees with Oscar’s held the suspect down until police arrived. The employees pressed charges and the man was arrested. This might not of been the first caper of the evening for this alleged thief. A wreath was set up on Tuesday night for people to pay respects for the late George Zander and all victims of hate crimes. Organizers of the event were shocked to find that the wreath was gone shortly after the ceremony. Employees with Oscar’s Cafe said the man who later tried to steal from them came into the restaurant with the wreath. The employees didn’t know where the wreath came from until they watched our morning newscast. “We just realized it was the same wreath. We had a video of it. In the video you see the type of wreath it is and just compared it and we realized that was the wreath that was stolen,” said Jose Esparza, general manager of Oscar’s. The restaurant has replaced the wreath with a new one. “As part of the community we just want to show that whatever it is that happened, we are here for them,” Esparza said. The new wreath should be on the corner of Calle Encilia and Tahquitz Canyon Way for a few days for people to pay respects. The Palm Springs Police Department has not yet identified the man taken into custody, but the it did confirm the man arrested also had a warrant for his arrest.
