Indio Police investigating deadly collision near school
Indio Police were investigating a collision between a motorist and a pedestrian that left one man dead Friday morning.
Indio Police Spokesman Dan Marshall confirmed to KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 News a Hispanic man was struck and killed at Van Buren and Avenue 48 near Martin Van Buren Elementary School.
The call for help came into police at about 6:37 a.m., according to Marshall.
There was no further word on the dead man’s identity, but several viewers called our newsroom to let us know about the collision near the school.
A witness to the collision told reporter Jeremy Chen the man who was struck was homeless and a regular in the area. The driver did stop and was cooperating with investigators, said Marshall.
Neither drugs, nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the collision.
Classes were in session Friday morning at the nearby elementary school, according to a district spokeswoman.
