Big rig collision slows I-10 traffic

Police and firefighters were working to clear a collision involving two big rig semi trucks Tuesday morning just east of the Coachella Valley. The California Highway Patrol reported the collision in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 just east of the Cactus City rest stop at 5:34 a.m. One of the trucks jack-knifed and debris was scattered across the roadway. Traffic was slowing in the area, limited to one lane, but still moving. The number 2 slow lane was closed due to the collision. An ambulance was called to the scene, but there was no word on the seriousness of any injuries. A hazardous materials team was also called in due to spilled fuel.
