Valley voters react to Trump election victory
Local voters in the Coachella Valley are giving their thoughts about the reality of a Trump Presidency. This comes after President-Elect Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the presidential election Tuesday. Local Republicans were celebrating the win while local Democrats were disappointed in the results.
The news of a Trump win was thrilling for one supporter.
“I’m excited,” Rob Cisneros, an Indio resident and Trump supporter, said. “Today is my 40th birthday. I woke up and I got a brand-new president. I think the country is going to go in a better direction.”
Another Trump supporter said now that Trump has talked the talked during the election campaign, it was time to walk the walk by governing the country.
“He’s not off the hook in my book,” Susan Sanko said. “He better produce otherwise I would know what’s going to happen and that’s why people voted for him because they want to see something going forward.”
Some Clinton supporters were unsure about what would happen to some of their friends, especially those who are minorities or in the LGBTQ community.
“I love diversity. A lot of same-sex couples in my realm of friends I’m concerned about what that’s going to be like,” Tammy Placencia said.
Other supporters said it was a time to unify the country and move on from the divisive rhetoric of the election.
“Americans are resilient and that’s one of its best qualities that no matter what happens even the people that are sad today are going to try to put a smile on their face and look at the positive things in life,” Shane Jerominski, a Clinton supporter, said.
