Veterans, mixed feelings about president-elect Donald Trump

Some local veterans say they’re confident that president-elect Donald Trump will make good on his promise, to take better care of American veterans. Other veterans have doubts.

“I believe he is going to shake up the country a little bit because of the status quo and what we need is a businessman to bring back the jobs,” said veteran Constance Morrison.

President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign promised to put veterans at the top of the list. Some veterans believe he is a man of his word, but one veteran said he has mixed feelings because of his approach.

“I think he’s a narcissist and he has an ego that’s just way too big to be leading the free world. I like what he’s doing. I just don’t like the man,” said Palm Springs American Legion Commander and veteran, Alan Tripp.

One veteran who is a teacher in the Coachella Valley did not want to go on camera but told me that he teaches about the branches of government but finds it difficult to explain this presidency to his more than 95 percent Hispanic students who are concerned about the president-elect’s views on immigration.

Another veteran said he believes President-elect Trump will rebuild the armed forces but his attitude isn’t up to par with being president.
