Recreational funding in Indian Wells still in question

The future of recreational funding in Indian Wells is still in question. Thursday afternoon, city leaders met to approve a response back to Desert Recreation District (DRD) officials. DRD officials said it all started earlier this year, when city leaders began exploring options to separate themselves from the district, in an effort to help fund the Indian Wells Golf Resort. DRD officials also at one point claimed the city violated the Brown Act during a meeting. Following the claim and a response from city leaders, recreation officials voiced their concerns at a meeting in earlier in November. Ultimately, Thursday’s meeting concluded with city leaders approving a letter, outlining their resentment of recreation officials tone and comments made at the prior meeting, and expressing their interest towards working together. Indian Wells city leaders declined to comment on the issue. In a statement, DRD officials said, “The District’s position is and always has been that we prefer to work cooperatively as we do with other partners.”
