Hundreds protest against Trump for second week in a row
Across different ages, genders and sexual orientations, the majority of a crowd in Palm Springs Saturday night stood as one, protesting President-Elect Donald Trump. “The election was a disappointment for us,” protester Bob Demaster said. “We don’t feel that Donald [Trump] is representative of our country, with what he’s said and done. And we feel that we have to make a statement that there are other divergent views.” With similar events continuing across the country, hundreds filled Frances Stevens park for a peaceful rally against the President-Elect, for the second week in a row. “I think it represents a level of frustration and the general feeling that nothing is being done,” protester Kelly Watson. But while some voiced their concerns about the future U.S. President, Saturday night’s rally had Trump supporters march home their view of recent protests near and far. “I’m looking for things outside of the, ‘he’s a this, he’s a that,’ [and] the labels that they’re putting on him as far as what they’re calling him,” Trump voter Steve Giboney said. “I’m looking for more in-depth to this anti-Trump movement that I can find.” Giboney even supported the event, as those opposing Trump said they looked to educate many, while supporting each other. “There’s a lot of anger and resentment that’s going on right now,” organizer Richard Noble said. “The only way our anger and resentment is going to get healed is when we come together and love each other. That’s what this is about.” Protesters said they plan on holding more rallies up until members of the Electoral College cast their ballots on December 19th. Organizers including Noble dedicated Saturday night’s rally to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
