Queen & princesses crowned for Riverside County Fair

Thirteen young ladies from across Riverside County competed for the crowns of Queen Scheherazade, Princess Dunyazade and Princess Jasmine on Saturday night. And all three winners go to La Quinta High School.

The Queen and her Court will act as goodwill ambassadors for the 2017 Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival on February 17-26.

County officials said Ngan Kim Nguyen, a senior at La Quinta High School, was crowned Queen Scheherazade. She’s involved in many community activities such as being a member of Key Club, Knots for Tots, Leo Club and a church member for the choir and reader for Vietnamese mass. She’s been on the Honor Roll for three years and won second place in a recent spelling bee.

Nguyen, who is an immigrant from Vietnam with English as her second language, has aspirations of becoming a pharmacist and wants to, “Inspire others to accept challenges by doing something that is beyond their capability,” according to the county’s release.

Alyssah Moffatt, from La Quinta High School, was crowned Princess Dunyazade. She is a senior and last year received an award for Academic Honors. Alyssah is involved with her church, choir, Future Teacher’s Club and Academy of Musical Performance (AMP) Camp. Officials said she would like to attend a 4-year university and pursue a Music or Sociology degree.

Crowned Princess Jasmine was Maya Jones, also a senior at La Quinta High School. Maya is Rotary Club President and a volunteer peer math tutor. She is involved with National Charity league and wants to attend a 4-year university with the intent of earning her degree in Mathematics so she can teach upper level AP or IB mathematics to high school students.

It’s not every year that the court features three young ladies from the same high school, whom also share classes together, making the 2017 Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival unique. Officials said it should bring a special bond between this year’s Queen and her Court.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 congratulates the three young ladies for being the honorary Queen and Court for this year’s festival.
