Hit and run suspect arrested with gun in Palm Springs
A Palm Springs man, and early release felon, was taken into custody Friday after a short police pursuit in a car that had been reported stolen.
Police said Nicholas Young, 24, possessed a loaded 9mm handgun on the seat of the car he was driving.
The owner of the stolen car called 911 Friday at approximately 2:00 p.m. stating they’d seen their vehicle in the area of South and East Palm Canyon Drive.
Officers caught up with the vehicle and tried to stop its driver when a short pursuit began.
The vehicle continued on for less than a mile when the driver hit a curb and jumped out, running away.
Officers were able to take Young into custody after a short foot chase.
Police said Young was also wanted for a recent hit and run collision on November 20th.
He was accused of shooting a gun into the sky after the other party in the collision took photos of his vehicle.
Young is now facing several gun related felony charges and was being held without bail due to his allegedly violating the terms of his release for prior felony convictions.
