Morongo Valley man arrested after police standoff

A Morongo Valley man is in custody accused of threatening to kill his father, then barricading himself inside a home.

A police swat team arrested Luke Aaron Schrader, 33, last night at his Morongo Valley home on the 49200 block of Buena Vista Drive.

KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News received a number of inquiries to our newsroom about this as it was happening.

Investigators now say Schrader attacked his father causing a severe head injury, pointed a gun at him, and threatened to kill him last night at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Police say Schrader was heavily armed and refused to surrender.

It took chemical agents to force him out of the home where he was then taken into custody.

He’s being held on a quarter of a million dollars bail, charged with several felonies including suspicion of criminal threats, felony assault, and brandishing a weapon.

Schrader is being held at the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
