Alexandra Pierce competes in 6th annual Dancing with the Desert Stars

Our very own Alexandra Pierce will be competing in this year’s Dancing with the Desert Stars.
The 6th annual fundraiser raises money for the Desert AIDS Project’s 100 Women Program.

Pierce and her partner, Artemi Okunev, have been practicing weekly to try and win the coveted Mirrorball trophy.

Okunev is originally from Russia and has been featured on a number of dance shows in Australia.

“I worked on some TV shows in Australia including ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and a few others,” Okunev said.

Pierce has been dancing since she was 3 years old, doing everything from ballet to hip-hop, but never ballroom dancing. The pair will be dancing the cha cha and the rumba.

“I will admit I thought it was going to be easier than it was. I’m having a hard time making the transition from ballet to ballroom so but hopefully it’s coming together,” Pierce said.

Dancing with the Desert Stars takes place on December 17th at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
