Authorities identify woman killed while lying in road

A Banning woman who was lying in a Beaumont roadway just prior to being struck and killed by a vehicle was identified by authorities on Tuesday morning.

Angelina Partridge was killed Monday when a vehicle struck her as she was lying face up between the fast and slow lane of state Route 79. County coroners did not list her age.

The crash happened at 3:28 a.m. on northbound state Route 79, one mile south of California Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer.

A passing motorist told the CHP that Partridge was lying in the road prior to being struck by a 2006 Kia Spectra driven by 55-year-old Hemet resident, Meyer said. CHP and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigators were still looking into why Partridge was lying in the roadway.

Partridge was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was uninjured in the crash, which shut down the northbound lanes of state Route 79 until around 6:20 a.m.
