Golden Globe nominees headed to Palm Springs

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is less than a month away and already many of the actors set to be honored here are scoring Golden Globe nominations.

“La La Land” snagged 7 nominations, including best motion picture for a musical or comedy. The film also getting high praise from the chairman of the film festival, awarded with the “Vanguard Award” for its outstanding creative ensemble. Actors Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling will be in attendance along with director Damien Chazelle.

The Globe’s best actress category is filled with festival honorees. Desert Palm Achievement honoree Natalie Portman is nominated for her portrayal of first lady Jackie Kennedy in the film “Jackie.” Amy Adams is also in the group, nominated for her role in “Arrival” where she plays Louise Banks, heading an elite team to investigate a mysterious spacecraft touching down across the globe. She’s being honored at the festival with the “Chairman’s Award.” And being honored with the Rising Star Award, Ruth Negga rounds out the group for her performance in “Loving.”

Casey Afflek snagged his own nomination in the best actor category for his role in “Manchester by the Sea.” He’s being honored with the festival’s Desert Palm Achievement Award.

Nicole Kidman is up for best supporting actress for her performance in “Lion”. The actress is also set to receive the festival’s International Star Award on January 2.
