Local Tribe collects toys for Standing Rock children

The Torres Martinez Band of Desert Cahuilla Indians in Thermal is partnering with a local group to collect toys for children of the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, where a large group of protestors are still gathered in opposition to the Access Pipeline.

A local group, CV Solidarity with Standing Rock, is working with the Tribe to host the week-long toy drive, and organizers recently posted details about the toy drive on its Facebook page.

The Tribe has set up drop-off locations for toys on their reservation in Thermal, located at 66725 Martinez Road.

Organizers hope to provide gifts to children this holiday season while the protest continues in North Dakota.

“It’s very important because we’re standing together. In rising together we can make a change, said organizer Amanda Nelson. “We’re accepting donations until the end of this week, Friday December 16th in order to ship them [toys] out Monday the 19th and get them there by Christmas.”
