Shots fired after multiple burglaries near Desert Hot Springs

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is searching for suspects believed to be involved in multiple residential burglaries on Wednesday.

The burglaries happened on the 67800 block of 20th Street in an unincorporated part of Desert Hot Springs.

According to one victim, burglars broke into at least two homes within a few hours but were scared off each time. Chris McPike, a resident in one of the homes said burglars kicked a side door open to his home at around 12:45 p.m. McPike’s wife and teenage son were home at the time and the son confronted the would-be robbers who took off. The family called police and made a report.

According to deputies, at around 6 p.m. the house next door to McPike was broken into. According McPike his neighbor came home to the burglary in progress. The man took out a gun and started shooting.

“As I was heading out I heard gunshots and found out that my neighbor had caught them when he came home. Some other guys were in there with masks and apparently they had a weapon, and he fired at them. I don’t think anyone was hit my neighbors are OK,” said McPike.

The Sheriff’s Department did confirm that shots were fired and no one was injured. The department still following up on leads and at this point there is no description of a suspects.Residents are asked to make sure doors are locked and if you see any suspicious activity call 911.
