Fantasy Springs host 2 title fights Friday night

Two Regional Title Fights are taking place at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino Friday night.

Undefeated Vyacheslav Shabranskyy will fight Sullivan Barrera for the vacant World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Council light heavyweight title in the scheduled 10-round main event tonight at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.

Shabranskyy (17-0-0, 14 knockouts) is ranked fifth by the WBC, seven spots ahead of Barrera (17-1, 12 KOs). Shabranskyy weighed in Thursday at 174.8 pounds, two-tenths under the light heavyweight limit and two-tenths of a pound more than Barrera. Shabranskyy was born in Ukraine and lives in Los Angeles. Sullivan was born in Cuba and lives in Miami.

The card also includes another regional title fight as Eddie Gomez defends his International Boxing Federation North American welterweight title against undefeated Rashidi Ellis in a scheduled 10-round bout. Gomez (19-1, 11 KOs) of New York City, won the title with a 10-round unanimous decision over John Karl Sosa May 20 at Fantasy Springs Casino in his last bout. He has won three consecutive fights after the only loss of his professional career. Ellis of Lynn, Massachusetts, is 16-0 with 11 knockouts.

The first bout is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The HBO Latino telecast will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $25, $35 and $45 and are available at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946, or online at fantasyspringsresort.com.
