Big rig slides off I-10 during rainstorm

A big rig slid down a freeway embankment amid rainy conditions in Cabazon Friday, with the truck ultimately overturning and blocking a frontage road just off the interstate.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash just before 1 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 10 near Morongo Trail. According to the CHP, the truck overturned off the right shoulder of the freeway and slid down the embankment, blocking adjacent Railroad Avenue.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Rain also led a van to overturn just five minutes later east of the big rig crash at eastbound Interstate 10 at Haughen Lehmann Way.

According to CHP Officer Darren Meyer, the non-injury crash was not blocking freeway lanes, but traffic was slow in the area, with passing motorists watching the wreck, which authorities moved to the center divider.
