Christmas wreaths laid on veterans graves across the country

One hundred and thirty six national cemeteries participated in the 2016 Christmas wreath-laying event, organized by Wreaths Across America.

The wreaths symbolize honor, respect and victory, the group said. The theme for this year is to say the veteran’s name out loud when the wreath is laid- as a way of making sure not one service member is forgotten.

“Through the burial field, you’ll find wives, husbands, nieces, nephews, brothers sisters kneeling before the headstones conversing with their friend, family member. it’s a wonderful wonderful thing to witness,” said Tom Pasek at the national cemetery in Bakersfield, one of the few that raised enough money to place a wreath at every head stone.
