Palm Springs has its own version of Monopoly

The city of Palm Springs has created its own version of Monopoly, complete with all the businesses you know and love, including Trio restaurant, The Village Pub and Trina Turk.

“There’s every local business we have: restaurants, Eisenhower is on there, the tribe of course took the water. It’s just really a fun game,” said Chamber CEO Nona Watson.

They’ve even customized the playing pieces. There’s the Tram, the Buzz Trolly, a dog, a palm tree, a bike and sunglasses. In this version of the game, instead of going to jail you go to Chill for happy hour. Contingency cards say things like “time for your monthly check up at Eisenhower” and Community Building cards say “take your friends to Lulu California Bistro.”

The Chamber of Commerce came up with the idea as a way to fund their plans to turn part of their office into a co-working space.

“If you’re running a business out of your home or doing a business on the side or say you’re visiting, you’re coming off the airplane and need to work for a few hours. Instead of sitting at a Starbucks at the hotel lobby or in your room you can come to the Palm Springs Chamber co-working space. We have internet for you, we have fax machines, we have copy machines, we have staff, we’re going to have a coffee bar,” Watson said.

The chamber ordered around 2,000 games and 100 percent of the money raised will go towards creating the new space. You can pick up your own version of the board for $25 at the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.
